Quick verdict
Apex is attractive if you want discounted futures evaluations and are comfortable managing drawdown mechanics. The big decision is not just account size — it is Intraday Trail vs EOD Trail. Intraday Trail is stricter because unrealized profit can raise the trailing threshold in real time. EOD Trail is easier to reason about because the threshold is calculated from end-of-day balance, but it is still enforced intraday during the next session.

Intraday Trail vs EOD Trail
| Rule area | Intraday Trail | EOD Trail |
|---|---|---|
| How drawdown moves | Follows the account’s highest intraday balance in real time, including unrealized gains. It only moves upward, never down. | Calculated once per trading day at 4:59:59 PM ET based on the highest EOD balance, then enforced during the next session. |
| What happens if breached | Positions liquidate automatically. Evaluation fails or PA closes. | Positions liquidate automatically. Evaluation fails or PA closes. |
| Daily loss limit | No DLL on Intraday Evaluation. DLL applies on Intraday PA and is tier-based. | DLL applies to EOD Evaluations and EOD PA. Eval DLLs are $500 / $1,000 / $1,500 / $2,000. |
| When trailing stops | PA stops once threshold reaches starting balance + $100. Rithmic/WealthCharts evaluations stop at target-profit balance; Tradovate evaluations trail indefinitely. | PA stops once threshold reaches starting balance + $100. Rithmic/WealthCharts evaluations stop at target-profit balance; Tradovate evaluations trail indefinitely with peak EOD balance. |
| Main risk | Open-profit giveback can raise the threshold and then trigger a breach in the same session. | Less sensitive to intraday new highs, but the EOD threshold is still enforced in real time once set. |

Discount-sensitive futures traders who understand drawdown mechanics, can follow strict risk-management rules, and want to choose between Rithmic, Tradovate or WealthCharts evaluation paths.
Watch-outs
- Intraday Trail and EOD Trail behave very differently.
- Tradovate evaluations trail indefinitely; Rithmic/WealthCharts evaluation thresholds can stop at target-profit balance.
- Evaluation max contracts are higher than PA max contracts.
- Payout eligibility depends on qualifying days, daily-profit minimums, safety net, minimum balance, payout caps and 50% consistency.
- Promotional pricing is coupon-dependent and should be checked at live checkout.
